lost of self
I was with my mom, dad and older brother going on vacation for a few weeks in Florida. My brother didn’t go out much so I was surprised and happy when he came with us. We were visiting my mom’s side of the family. My mom is the youngest of 7 sisters. Most lived in panama but I do have one aunt and cousins that live in Florida. After the flight my dad get the car we rented, and drove to the hotel. I had thought this was a normal vacation visiting family, but little did I know my dad I had a surprise. That surprise would change my life. My dad had put me in a horseback riding camp which I went to for a week. I was happy. On the first day of the camp I saw there was a lobby was a glass case with pictures and trophies on display. The whole building was made out of wood with window in the back showing the forest. They gave me boot, helmet from the front desk and gave me a tour. There were a lot of stables, which seemed like a maze for the eight year old self. I had tried several horses but I that pick out the horse named bunny. His coat was white with black spots. He loved to bite my boots. I learned a lot about horses. They showed me how to adjust the saddle, how to feed and brush the coat and to stay in the horse’ line of sight. I made a few friends during the week. I learned how to ride and how it felt with the wind in my face and seeing the blurs of green and brown go by as I rode along. It was a lot of fun. We practiced half a day, mornings, for the week. We did a small meeting and then go to the ring. The rest of the day was spent with my family. my aunt carol and my cousins Lucia and Dalys, they are very fun. Lucia and Dalys are both doctors like most of my mom side of the family. On Friday there was a contest my mom and dad came with me. My brother stayed at the hotel I only remember him coming to the camp with us once, after a lot of bugging, He is twelve years older than me and liked to stay in the hotel and play video games. I had a few minutes to talk to my friends as we prepare. Just like always I get my black boot, helmet and saddled up bunny. The ring was decorated with fake flowers and had a judges’ table with three people sitting on it. As soon we lined up the contest started. I was doing just fine and then something went wrong. Somewhere between here and there I could only hear voices and only see blackness. The next time I woke up I was on the couch in the ranch house and one of my friends was sitting next to me. I had asked my mom that happened mostly because I didn’t remember, she said bunny got spooked and I had fallen. The ribbons were awarded, then we left. I can’t remember the rest so I’m going to speak(type) for my mom. While driving to my aunt’s I threw up. It was then that my mom, being a nurse, told my dad to go to the nearest hospital. On the ride there I felt sleepy, but my mom was with me in the back seat and she told me to stay awake. At the hospital I got a CT scan of my head.” this was done for someone who suffered head trauma” (my mom). After the scan I was told I can finally sleep.” The hospital recommended I follow up with my primary doctor because there was something unusual about the CT scan” (mom). My ordered a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The MRI showed I have a tumor in the center of my brain, near the nerves of the eye. If the tumor to grow I may lose my sight and I can have scizers. I was taught what symptoms to look for if it grows. The biggest symptoms are head ache. I now have to follow up with many doctors to monitor the tumor. The number of doctors has tripled I now have pediatric oncologist, pediatric neuro-opthalmologist, pediatric endocrinologist. The Pediatric oncologist specialized in cancer. She the one that orders everything. Although surgeons and radiation oncologists may treat cancer in pediatric patients, the term 'pediatric oncologist' usually refers to physicians who have specialized in pediatrics and then received further training in medical oncology and hematology. This means that rather than using surgery or radiation therapy to treat cancer, pediatric oncologists typically use medications and chemotherapy. Pediatric neuro ophthalmologist is for my eyes. My doctors name is Grant T. Liu, MD, is a Pediatric Neuro-ophthalmologist at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and holds the Raymond G. Perelman Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neuro-Ophthalmology. He’s the one doctor I don’t like the most because I hate the eye drops but I like him as a person. Pediatric endocrinologist is for my hormones. If a child has problems with growth, puberty, diabetes, or other disorders related to the hormones and the glands that produce them, a pediatric endocrinologist may treat your child. Pediatric endocrinologists deal with hormone disorders at all stages of childhood and the teen years. Thankfully the tumor has not grown in the twelve years. I now see all my doctors every two years. Oncology thinks its benign. Personally I think it effects my memory. The reason why I think It effects my memory because I can’t remember important date like birthdays or the names and faces of the students in my classes. For now my life is peaceful with nothing major wrong, but I always have to remember I can go blind and have to stop working on my art.

If I had no fallen off the horse that I would never have known about the tumor. I still want to go back to riding someday. I worked with my mom to help. I think it was the right approach. She was there to help fill in some blanks my my memory. Because I don’t remember that happened after I fell. The most difficult part in my writing process was getting the words out of my head. I always forgot the sentence that I was typing. I had my mom type and print what I said then I re-type it. I started the 8th it was not a good approach but life happened. I also had a lot on my mind. At first I did it in my moms room then later in mine. I think it was an ok approach. My house there is thin walls so we always hear our naberiors kids. Maybe next time be out of the house. I fell this this is a really the only thing that I lost. The other stories I was going to write about seem to be things I can get back over time. I think I need to add more descriseion to my hiraeth. Next time I think I need to go some where else.
Louder by Charice is a love song. she is singing about losing a special someone. "I'm staring out of my window And the rain is pouring down When you left, I was so low" The day I lost a part of my brain. I was with my mom, dad, and older brother we were on vacation for a few weeks. We were visiting my mom’s side of the family in florda. My moms side of the family is most people in the medical filed. What I didn’t is that my dad had a surprise for me. I few miles from your hotel was a horse ranch. I was so happy. I get my riding boots, made some friends and learned about horse. I had loved every second of it. I wind in my hair as I’m galloping on a trail. To see only blurs of green and brown as I pass by only looking a head. My favorite horse was named bunny. Bunny was white with black spots he loved to bite on my riding boots. On the last day of the camp there was I contest. My mom, dad and brother whent with me like they did for the whole time; Just like I was before I just there saddled up and get to the ring. I was doing fine until I hit the ground. I could only hear screaming and only see blackness. The next time I woke up I was in the house the contest was over. On the way back to the hotel I don’t remember much just that I throw up and that my mom ,being a nurse, told my dad to drive to the hospital as she told me to keep my eyes open. i was very sleepy and I think my mom was crying. I had a MRI done on my I we found out that I had a brain tumor right in the center of my forehead. I have lived with in for maybe 5 or more years.
A hiraeth is a story of losing stuff of meaning that you cant get back. Stuff can be anything memories, a person, a object and faith. I have not lost much thankfully. I did lost my memory, my best friend and my first love.
I had lost my memory when I was 8 in Florida. I was with my mom, dad, and older brother we were on vacation for a few weeks. It was a normal until I found something. Something that I can go blind too. Thankfully I have family down there to help out. Now I have many doctors I need to go to every 2 years. I lost my best friend when I was in middle school just about to enter high school. She was my cousin who was one year younger that me. We speated almost every weekend together told each other everything. That was the problem we have a fight over a boy. We had made I plan and then there was I misunderstanding on her part. Now we don’t talk. I lost my first love in middle school I was dating a “bad boy ” he was a white boy. I have always wanted to date one. he like to take control and talk dirty. In my thirteen year old mind he was perfect. He helped me come out of my shell realizing that I was way too timid. Later he moved away. The only thing I could think about was talking with him, my great idea was to give he’s number to a close friend. She then gave me her phone and said I’m sorry but I rejected him. I had stopped talking to him and years later he find me on facebook. |
