Blog Post Introduction:
It’s a podcast where a situation arises. You are asked if keeping a secret can be either good or bad. Lulu Wang’s grandmother ,nina, on her father’s side is kept not knowing the truth; and through it all her family has to deal with their decision not to tell her. You get to see two sides of the coin. Literary Analysis: Lulu Wang / April 22, 2016 / China Crative nonfiction/ Lulu Wang is told that her nina was lung cancer and only has three mouths to live. Her family desides not to tell nina but Lulu says her has a right to know. Lulu goes a long with the plan, of them not telling nina and going to see her in china pretending it was for Lulu’s brother’s wedding, the whole reason why they choose a wedding was because they wanted an exuse to go see Nina without her thinking something was up. Lulu is told to smile and give her Nina joy. In there culture at weddings it’s polite to smile and instead of having a funeral ,where you honor the dead be crying a lot,. After the “wedding ” Lulu made it a point to shype every day; three years later her Nina is still alive. Lulu’s family says I was because they didn’t tell Nina that she lived longer. /Lulu Wang/ sad, hurt/ Objective, Emotional, Intimate, Serious Secret/ ignorance Argumentation: Do i agree with the family's choice to deceive Nina? Yes and No, I personally would have told Nina and leave it up to her if she wanted to do treatment or not. Its her body and her life so I guess I kinda agree with Lulu. Lulu makes a good point that there could've been something she wanted to do or somewhere she wanted to go before her last goodbyes. She was lied to by her own family, who you can trust if not them? I also see where that’s a different culture so I wouldn’t understand as much. Nina did do deceive her family earlier with breast cancer so I can be unforeseen pay back. Narration: My cousin’s name is Taylor(T) we were best friend growing up mostly because we are only one year a part. we had sleepovers, saw movies, you know all of the normal best girl friend stuff. We trusted each other more then anyone. It was 2014 I was starting my first year In high school when I got a message on facebook from T that her boyfriend ,who she have never seen in person , wanted to see her and that she needed my help. I wanted to help but I was worried for her safety. Do I tell her mom or not? I ended up helping her meet her boyfriend, it took weeks of talking to her and her boyfriend we set a day, time and where. When it was finally the day her boyfriend pulled out so I thought our plans were off. Hours later I found out T was still going and now she was grounded. My lie broke us a part. |
